The Idylle is a tragicomic drama that follows the stories of five family members around the theme of meaning. Especially after a major setback, it becomes clear to you: there is no meaning, you can attribute it to it, but you remain a plaything of circumstances and the needs and wishes of others. By fair means or foul. In the midst of that, you have to try to make something of it, within your own small existence. And maybe, in a small moment, you succeed in being amazed.
For this film I have created a campaign image soaked in dark comedy of a vase with dead flowers, surrounded by objects derived from the characters storylines. This image turns into something humorous by adding the name ‘Idyllic’ to it. It doesn’t look idyllic at all if you take a closer look. The portraits next to each other tell the audience it is about a family, with the largest portrait revealing the main character as the mater familias.
As the characters of this family obviously lack of connection with each other you can really feel the loneliness and distance throughout the movie. Therefor I presented the concept of distance for the title design of this movie. The font is a very thin serif that especially in the end credits has a very wide distance between the words. I wanted to translate a classic, lost, bitter yet sassy, modern and funny feel to it.
